February 18, 2023
Florida President's Newletter
Greetings Everyone and Happy New Year. The Florida Association is off to a very active 2023 agenda.
Currently we are planning to host 15 events (some are Championships) during the year. Once we complete our 2023 budgeting process (by the first of February), the Executive Team members will start event scheduling.
Last year, the Association introduced a recommended pay scale for meet Officials. We are proud to announce that several institutions have adopted a modified version of the scale to pay Officials more. We encourage all of you to advocate support for the pay scale to ensure officials are compensated for their time/cost.
Later this year the Association is planning to host a State-Wide forum (Zoom Meeting) with University Administrators, Coaches and Meet Directors on the State of Florida Officials (both present and new recruits). We are looking for new and innovative ideals to recruit younger Officials. As the older officials begin to reduce their work load, we are looking to get younger replacements.
Please feel free to share your thoughts with any member of the Executive Team.
Here is the new USATF FLORIDA FLYER, promoting our sport and membership. Please circulate to those in your social circle.
The USATF National Meeting was held in Orlando. Some of the many highlights were:
• Shared power agreement (Athletes/Administration) was passed by the necessary 2/3 vote majority.
• Chair, Mike Armstrong indicated that he will form two focus groups to study ways to increase women and minorities officials
• Official's General Session: 2023 points of emphasis on Official's Pay, Hospitality, safety and addressing coaching bad behavior
See you on the track!
Nate Johnson, President
