RIO DE JANEIRO -- Thursday evening at Olympic Stadium, track fans witnessed something never before seen in Olympic competition: a relay team running a solo time trial, in an attempt to make a final.
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL -- Two Olympic records and five medals, three of them gold, helped Team USA pull ever farther away from the rest of the medal table Thursday at Olympic Stadium. The U.S. now has 25 total medals, including nine golds, and has almost triple the next highest nation in the points standings. With 15 finals remaining in Rio, Team USA has already matched its gold-medal haul from London.
RIO DE JANEIRO – Team USA 5,000-meter runner Abbey D’Agostino (Topsfield, Massachusetts) has suffered season-ending knee injuries and will not compete in Friday’s Olympic final.

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL -- Ending a 32-year medal drought in the men’s 3000m steeplechase, American record holder Evan Jager (Algonquin, Illinois) ran a masterful race to earn silver and become the first American man to medal in the event since Brian Diemer in 1984. Four athletes advanced out of their respective track qualifying rounds Wednesday morning, while reigning Olympic champion Ashton Eaton (Bend, Oregon) began his gold medal defense in the men’s decathlon.
