ORLANDO -- Throughout the 2016 USATF Annual Meeting, elections are held for a number of positions in both committees and councils spanning all constituent groups. Results from the Athletes Advisory Committee, Youth Committee, Long Distance Running Committee, Associations Committee, Club Council, Race Walk Committee and Cross Country Council are below. Official results from other USATF committees and councils will be updated as they are received.
ORLANDO -- USA Track & Field and NBC Sports Group announced a historic eight-year partnership today that provides NBC Sports with the exclusive media rights to USA Track & Field’s live, elite-athlete competitions through 2024. It is the longest and most comprehensive agreement ever between the two parties. USATF CEO Max Siegel made the announcement on Thursday during his State of the Sport address at the 2016 USATF Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida.
ORLANDO, FLORIDA -- USATF CEO Max Siegel on Thursday afternoon delivered a State of the Sport address that highlighted the overall health of the sport, athletic success of team USATF athletes, and growth in the areas of constituent services, partnerships and athlete income. He made his remarks at the Opening General Session of USATF’s 2016 Annual Meeting.
The 2016 USATF Annual Meeting officially kicked off with the Opening Session at the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista in Orlando, Florida.
INDIANAPOLIS -- USATF will recognize 2016 Olympian and world junior record holder Sydney McLaughlin as Youth Athlete of the Year and five-time 2016 WMA gold medalist Irene Obera as Masters Athlete of the Year at the Jesse Owens Awards, announced Monday.
Last Saturday, University of Missouri junior Karissa Schweizer (Urbandale, Iowa) stunned the crowd with a burst of speed in the final straightaway to take the women’s 6K individual title at NCAA DI Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Indiana.
INDIANAPOLIS -- Tony Migliozzi (North Canton, Ohio) won his second International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) 50 km world title Saturday, earning him USATF Athlete of the Week honors.
INDIANAPOLIS -- University of Texas co-interim head coach and three-time Olympian Tonja Buford-Bailey has been named Nike Coach of the Year, USATF announced Thursday. Buford-Bailey’s pupils won three Olympic medals for Team USA in Rio and her Texas athletes captured six NCAA titles in addition.
In a sea of over 51,000 runners at last Sunday’s TCS New York City Marathon, 2016 Olympian Molly Huddle (Providence, Rhode Island) pushed through to finish her debut marathon in third-place, running the sixth-fastest American woman’s NYC Marathon debut in history.
Team USA won 74 gold and 181 medals overall at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Perth, Australia over two weeks, which concluded Sunday.
