PHILADELPHIA - Team USA’s women put on a thrilling show in the women’s 4x800m as they shattered the American Record by 13 seconds in the first event of the day and set the tone for Team USA to go on to win four of the six events at the 14th edition of USA vs. the World at the Penn Relays.

With a full slate of elite competition, the 104th edition of the Drake Relays were in full swing Friday as Mary Cain set the all-time high school record in the 1,500m and Jenny Simpson (women’s 1,500m), Michael Tinsley (men’s 400m hurdles) and Brittney Reese (women’s long jump) all recorded world-leading performances during evening competition. The meet continues Saturday.

Scheduled for 11:20 a.m. Saturday, the women’s 800-meter invitational race will feature many of the world’s best competitors over the age of 40.
Garrett Heath’s lime-green shoes pounded the pavement toward the finish line in the last 100 meters. But Leo Manzano, the 2012 Olympic 1,500-meter silver medalist, and 2011 USA Indoor mile champion Jeff See stood in the way.
