After setting American records in their respective events at the USA Outdoor Championships in June in Des Moines, Iowa, Amanda Bingson (San Marcos, Texas, hammer throw) and Michelle Carter (Dallas, Texas, shot put) will look to carry that momentum and lead a strong group of Team USA athletes in the field events into the IAAF World Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which begin Saturday in Moscow, Russia.

USA Track & Field on Tuesday launched a first-of-its kind program that recognizes and promotes high school and cross country state champion teams, and their coaches, throughout the country.

Gray began her distance running career at the age of nine in her home state of Oregon. She hoped to follow in the footsteps of father, Bob Gray, who competed at the 1972 Olympic Trials in the race walk and marathon events, and entrusted him with the role of coach. With her father’s wisdom guiding her, she began competing in several USATF Junior Olympic meets.
