MOSCOW - Team USA had an outstanding morning of qualifying in the sprints and in the women’s 4x400m as all U.S. athletes moved to the next round of competition, as well as Olympic medalists Will Claye and Christian Taylor in the triple jump during Friday’s morning session at the IAAF World Championships in Luzhniki Olympic Stadium.
In the sport of track and field, an athlete is always looking for a breakthrough season. A year when the specifics in their training and mental approach seem to come together and equals faster times. And most importantly they are performances they are able to repeat.
MOSCOW - A return to gold for the men’s 4x400m and a silver medal for Ryan Whiting in the men’s shot put in his first World Outdoor Championships Friday night at Luzhniki Stadium. The medals helped provide a bright spot to an evening in which one of the sport’s biggest stars fell to injury.
MOSCOW - Team USA made it through the opening rounds of the women’s 200m and 800m races smoothly, with three women advancing in the 800, and four in the 200m on Thursday’s morning session at Luzhniki Olympic Stadium.
On Monday evening, USA’s Ryan Wilson crossed the finish line in the men’s 110m hurdles behind fellow American David Oliver to claim the silver medal.
MOSCOW - On a light day of competition Wednesday, the U.S. delegation made the most of a free afternoon by attending a special reception hosted by the U.S. Ambassador to Russia, Michael McFaul, and the USA Track & Field Foundation.
Dwight Phillips will be faced with the rarest of chances Friday. He has the opportunity to earn his fifth World Outdoor Championship gold medal in the men’s long jump at the IAAF World Outdoor Championships in Moscow, Russia, and place his name into elite company. A fifth world title in the event would tie him for the second most World Outdoor Championships gold medals all-time.
MOSCOW - Team USA’s 400m hurdles crew came through in intense competition, winning a combined three medals in the women’s and men’s races, while Jenny Simpson nearly pulled off a wire-to-wire win as she got silver in the women’s 1,500m at the IAAF World Track & Field Championships Thursday night at Luzhniki Olympic Stadium.
