GLASGOW -- Olympian Emma Coburn (Crested Butte, Colorado) etched her name in the record books Saturday, breaking the American record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Diamond League meeting in Glasgow. Coburn crossed in 9:11.42 to set a new personal best and take the AR.
Central Park Track Club dominated the first day, taking leads in the men’s (89 points), women’s (83), and combined (172) standings. Erison Hurtault won the 400 meters in 47.12 while teammate Elhadji Mbow took second in 49.25.
Inika McPherson knows how to make an entrance. It’s hard to miss the 2014 USATF Outdoor National Champion in the high jump, even though she stands at just 5’4”. More than 40 reigning world masters track and field champions who won gold at the last World Masters indoor or outdoor championships and at least six Olympians will be among over 1100 athletes 30-95+ years old, including the world’s and nation’s best, competing at the USA National Masters Track & Field Championships in Winston-Salem, NC, Thursday through Sunday, July 17-20. The meet will be at WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY’S Kentner Stadium, 1834 Wake Forest Road. The athletes will display speed, strength and endurance demonstrating that lifetime fitness is possible for all ages in events ranging from 100 to 10,000 meters, while field events will include the full range of jumps and throws. This is the first national masters track championship in the region and resulted from being the winning bid in a competitive presentation process at the USA Track & Field Annual Meeting two years ago.

Kaylin Whitney has been named USATF’s Athlete of the Week after a setting two high school bests, a world youth best and the fifth fastest American junior time at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships last weekend in Eugene, Oregon, July 5-6.
Announcing 88 athletes, including 47 collegians and 41 high schoolers, USA Track & Field approaches the 8th IAAF World Junior Championships in Eugene, Oregon, with a headlining group of under-20s competing July 22-27 at historic Hayward Field.
