EUGENE -- Team USA has 14 athletes advancing to semis or finals after the morning session of Day three at IAAF World Juniors at Hayward Field.
Team USA sat down for a quick Q&A with Hurdlers Kendell Williams and Kenny Selmon, who were named captains for the U.S. team.
The beginning of two title defenses for a hurdler, the sixth straight gold medal for a high jumper, broken records and outstanding performances showcased the athletes competing on Day Four of USATF National Junior Olympics at Turner Stadium on the campus of Humble High School.
There were three U.S. medalists and six athletes advancing during the evening session of Day Three at IAAF World Junior Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Mary Cain, 3,000m “It felt awesome. I thought it would be kind of fun to do something a little different. It was super duper competitive at the start with jostling and everything and everybody was there, really until there was 800 meters to go. That made it a lot more exciting, definitely.”
“It was amazing. Every time someone would come near near me, I would try going with them, and kept trying to remain on my pace. I fell off for like two laps, but I kept bringing it back on.”
80 year old Masters athlete Florence Meiler has been named USATF’s Athlete of the Week after her impressive 14 event weekend; as she had broke several records at USATF Masters Outdoor Championships at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
INDIANAPOLIS – Coming off her American 5,000m record of 14:42.64 a week ago in Monaco, Molly Huddle looks to take home another national championship Saturday at the USA 7 Mile Championships in Davenport, Iowa, hosted by the Quad-City Times Bix 7.
