DES MOINES, Iowa -- A day of rainy weather and cooler temperatures brought a world relay best and a trio of world-leading performances Friday night at Drake Relays during the first day of Beijing World Championships Preview events.
Dawn Harper-Nelson, women’s shuttle relay (second leg) “It was a great finish. Kristi did a great job bringing it home for us. I’m still trying to comprehend what just happened, but I truly enjoyed myself. It was first time ever doing this. Walking over, the girls had to tell me, ‘Okay, when I cross this line, you have to go,’ so it was just fun to race with other amazing hurdlers.”
The world-renowned Drake Relays will include a Masters Invitational Women's 800m (Final), at Drake Stadium on Saturday, April 25. The star-studded field includes several age-group World and American record holders in the 400-800m and Olympic Trials qualifiers.
On a rematch with Kirani James this year “I feel good. Early in the season, Drake is obviously an exciting meet to kick the season off with. Last year was great. This year should be great as well. We have a lot of great talent here in the 400 and in a lot of the races, so to line up against each other, it’s nothing foreign. This is what we do. It’s going to be many more this year and for years to come, so we take each race one at a time and handle business.
